MOEMS Contest

Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle Schools

What is MOEMS?

MOEMS (Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle Schools) is a long-standing international math competition focused on nurturing problem-solving skills. Students participate in monthly contests from November through March, solving non-routine math problems that challenge logical thinking and creativity.

The competition is conducted in two divisions:

  • Division E: Recommended for Grades 4–6 (open to anyone in grade 6 or below)
  • Division M: Designed for Grades 6–8

More than 120,000 students from all 50 U.S. states and 39 countries participate in MOEMS each year.

Contest Format

MOEMS consists of five separate contests, each containing five problems. Students have 30 minutes to complete each test. There is no penalty for incorrect answers, but the problems are designed to test deep understanding and perseverance.

Who Can Participate?

The contest is open to students in Grades 4 through 8, with grade-level placement determined by the division selected. Students must be part of a registered team in order to compete. Each team may include up to 35 students.

Teachers, schools, and parents may register teams. If your school does not offer MOEMS, you may request to participate through an external organization.
