Why math competitions

A smart way to challenge the mind

Math competitions are opportunities for growth, exploration, and confidence building. Whether your child is just beginning or already loves problem solving, contests offer lasting benefits inside and outside the classroom.

Skill development

Problem solving with creativity and strategy, critical thinking through unfamiliar questions, and time management under real deadlines, going well beyond the school curriculum.

Cognitive growth

Puzzling problems become joyful discovery. Students build the habit of deep, sustained focus and gain real pride from tackling challenges and growing through effort.

Future opportunities

Contest results are recognized by top high schools and colleges, build readiness for STEM careers and research, and connect students with motivated peers and mentors.

Beyond the classroom

Team rounds and modeling contests show math in action: collaborating, communicating, and finding multiple elegant paths to a solution, just like in real careers.

Choose the right fit

Two levels, one clear path

Every student starts where they are. Both levels follow the same yearlong arc, with the depth and pace matched to readiness.

FOUNDATIONS

Foundations

Strengthen school math and start competing

Best for

Students in grades 6 to 8 who want to deepen their school math while building problem solving confidence.

What students gain

A stronger command of the ideas behind their school math, including fractions, ratios, algebra, and logical reasoning, through engaging competition style problems that reward creative thinking.

Focus

Enrichment and school reinforcement first, with a gentle introduction to AMC 8 and MATHCOUNTS.

ADVANCED

Advanced

Master AMC 8 and MATHCOUNTS

Best for

Students in grades 6 to 8 who are comfortable with Algebra 1 and ready to train seriously for math competitions.

What students gain

Deeper problem solving across all four contest domains, timed practice, and the strategy needed to excel on AMC 8 and MATHCOUNTS, plus a running start toward AMC 10.

Focus

Competition mastery, with challenging problems and full contest style practice.

How the year works

Fall and Spring semesters

Each semester runs fifteen weeks. Every week blends topics from across the contest domains, so students build all of them together, the way real competitions test them, rather than one subject at a time.

FALL · AUG TO DEC

Algebra & Counting

A spiraling mix of algebraic reasoning, fractions, percents and proportions, exponents, equations and inequalities, and counting techniques such as permutations, combinations, Venn diagrams, and casework, interleaved week to week.

SPRING · JAN TO MAY

Number Theory & Geometry

A spiraling mix of divisibility, primes, modular arithmetic and remainders, number bases, angles and triangles, similarity, area and volume, and coordinate geometry, woven together rather than taught in isolation.

Schedule & location

When & where

Foundations runs as two separate cohorts, and each student joins one of them. Advanced meets in person on Saturdays.

Foundations · In-Person Cohort

Saturdays 8:30 to 10:30 AM

In person at Roam Alpharetta

Foundations · Online Cohort

Thursdays 5:30 to 7:30 PM

Live online, join from anywhere

Advanced

Saturdays 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

In person at Roam Alpharetta

A Foundations student joins either the Saturday in-person cohort or the Thursday online cohort, not both. Fall and Spring semesters, fifteen weeks each, in small groups.
